Crochet Christmas Ball Ornament Cover
Simple crochet pattern for covering a
ball ornament by Chrystal Peavy
Materials Needed:
22 yards Light {3} acrylic yarn
US 7
{4.50 mm} crochet hook
3.5-inch
{9 cm} diameter ball ornament
Stitches Used:
Ch
Sl st
Sc
Dc {yo, insert hook, pull up a loop, (yo and pull through 2 loops) 2 times.}

Instructions:
Start: Ch 8, Sl st in the 1st ch to
form ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 {counts as Dc}, 19 Dc in the ring.
Sl st around the top of the beginning ch. [20 Dc made.]
Round 2: Sc in the next Dc. *Ch 4, skip next Dc,
Sc in the next Dc* 9 times. Ch 4, Sl st in the beginning Sc. [10 ch-4 loops
made.]
Round 3: (Sl st, Ch 1, and Sc) in the next ch-4 loop.
*Ch 5, Sc in the next ch-4 loop* 9 times. Ch 5, Sl st in the beginning Sc. [10
ch-5 loops made.]
Round 4: (Sl st, Ch 1, and 3 Sc) in the next
ch-5 loop. *Ch 9, 3 Sc in the next ch-5 loop* 9 times. Ch 9, Sl st in the
beginning Sc. [10 ch-9 loops and 30 Sc made.]
Round 5: Sc in the next Sc. *Ch 5, Sc in the top
of the next ch-9 loop, Ch 5, Sc in the middle Sc of the next 3 Sc group* 9 times.
Ch 5, Sc in the top of the next ch-9 loop, Ch 5, Sl st in the beginning Sc. [20
ch-5 loops and 20 Sc made.]
Round 6: (Sl st, Ch 1, Sl st, Ch 1, Sl st) all in
the next ch-5 loop. Sc in the next Sc. *Ch 9, Sc in the next Sc in the top of
the ch-9 loop* 9 times. Ch 9, Sl st in the beginning Sc. [10 ch-9 loops and 10 Sc
made.]
Round 7: *(5 Sc, 2 Dc, and 5 Sc) all in the next
ch-9 loop* 10 times. [100 Sc and 20 Dc made.]
Round 8: Sl St in the next 5 Sc, Sl st in the
next Dc, *Sc in between the 2 Dc stitches, Ch 9* 10 times. Sl st in the beginning
Sc. Ch 1, pull up a loop, and cut to fasten off then wave in the tail. [10 ch-9
loops and 10 Sc made.]
{Adjust
the Ch 9s in round 8 as needed - between 5 to 15 each ch - depending on your
tension and the size of your ball. Less chains will be tighter to the ball. Too
tight and it will not stretch around the ball.}
Finishing: Using a whip stitch, thread a piece of
yarn through all 10 loops in round 8. Wrap cover around ball, pull the yarn
tight and tie the ends together.
